Before I start writing about our first home purchase, I want to give you all a little history about what kind of home buyers we are. We are the first time home buyers, fresh of the boat, not that fresh too we have been surrounded by friends who have been home owners for few years now and we have got enough KT sessions from them. But as you all know for everyone anything done for the first time is a big deal, it can be first kiss, first car etc. We have been through those unforgettable phase and now it is time for our big step " Our First Home" (new or old, honestly i like the new my husband on other hand is different). Like any other couple we are married and now want some adventure (or can say family pressure) so we decided to buy our first dream home. So without penning a lot on what couples want, what is family pressure etc, let me start our house hunting story.
We started looking for our house almost 2 yrs back, in the February of year 2008. At that time we wanted to buy house in Virginia, because I was working there. We roamed around for few days without realtor, or some reason my husband never hired a realtor and we always had argument about that. He was always hesitant like any other thing and in between all this we had the Indian mentality of hiring a Indian realtor and get 2% back from him (that is what most arttime Indian realtors do). So we finally hired a realtor after 7 months went around Virginia looked at many houses, foreclosed houses to short sales (In 2008 and 2009 there were many foreclosure properties on sale). Oh i forgot the most important detail when we were looking for houses in VA we were leaving in Maryland. (Staying in one state but looking for house in a different state is a totally different and long story and this is not the right topic to discuss that so let me continue about the house.) So the realtor 1 started taking us to different houses in and around chantilly. He was nice guy he drove us around all the time, but i have just one suggestion please clean ur car from all dog hair if you want to drive them. I always got a feeling he wanted s to drive so he kept his car that party, but we never got that right. Anyways during that time our preference was Chantilly area in Virginia (atleast my preference). After 3 to 4 visits we finally bid on a house which came back on market which we had really liked, we quickly jumped in, felt we are very lucky blah blah, but we took the offer back next day. Surprised dont be, this is how it works with us. This much history should be good for me to continue our wonderful journey..........
